Important Information for International Students: Preparing for Potential Immigration Changes in 2025
Dear Students,
As we approach a new presidential administration in 2025, we want to assure you that 麻豆社 is here to support you through any potential changes to immigration policies. While we don鈥檛 yet know the full scope of what may happen, our goal is to keep you informed, prepared, and confident as you plan for the upcoming term and beyond.
This guidance is based on the information currently available and is meant to help you make informed decisions. If you have specific concerns or questions, our International Student Advisors/DSO鈥檚 are ready to assist you.
What You Need to Know
Travel Plans
Changes to travel policies or bans may potentially affect students from certain countries. Although these changes have not been confirmed, we strongly recommend that if you are currently traveling or planning to travel during the holidays or Spring term, you aim to return to the U.S. before January 20, 2025. For those planning to travel during the Spring term, please stay informed about any updates on travel restrictions that might impact your return. Should travel restrictions or other commitments pose challenges, don鈥檛 hesitate to contact your International Student Advisor/DSO for support鈥攚e are here to help you navigate any difficulties.
What to Bring When Entering the U.S.
To avoid delays at customs, ensure you have the following documents in your carry-on luggage:
Potential Policy Changes
Although changes to visa categories (such as asylum, OPT, or green card eligibility) are possible, they require Congressional approval and take time to implement. We are closely monitoring any developments and will keep you informed with timely updates.
If You Have Concerns About Legal Status
Some discussions have suggested expanded deportation efforts, but these would take time to implement and may face legal challenges. If you have concerns, please seek advice from an immigration attorney.
